I know I’m not alone when I say that I was glad to see 2014 go. Already, 2015 is shaping up to be a pretty kick-ass year. Here are some things I’m excited for in the next few months.
“…wouldn’t it be nice if it weren’t crazy and your life really could be like a sonnet, like a pop song, like Paris in the ’20s?”
— Ben Dreyfuss, “Why Love Actually Matters“
Every time I read a great piece like this on The Cut, I’m reminded why it’s one of the most-visited sites in my Bookmarks bar. The piece in question is from the Ask Polly series, which, up until now, I hadn’t given a second glance (anything labeled “advice column” is anti-click bait for me). This time, it might have been something about the intentionally clumsy title that actually made me click.
I make no secret about not being big on traditional New Year’s resolutions (or any resolutions at all). The reason why may be because I’m lazy. It also might be because 2014 has been a rough year for everyone and I think we all could use a well-deserved break.
When it comes to winter dressing, I tend to lean towards cozy before luxe—as much as I know it’s the season for jewel tones, glitter, and glam, I have trouble parting with my cold-weather go-to’s (read: anything knitted or grey). Silver is my happy medium between my winter uniform and something a bit more festive. Lucky for me, there is no shortage of ways to inject a bit of sparkle into my wardrobe.
According to unusedwords.com, the word “represents a simple and familiar yet a very specific phenomenon—the sun’s warmth on a cold winter’s day.”
I feel pretty lucky to have grown up as a dancer during the dawn of So You Think You Can Dance and America’s Best Dance Crew. About 25% of the reason summer is my favourite time of year is because it marks the time for a new season of SYTYCD. More than that, though, I’m lucky to have grown up as a dancer during the dawn of YouTube.
Any of my friends will attest to the fact that my lipstick collection is already out of hand (case in point: the number one item on my Christmas wish list is a sizeable-yet-pretty bowl to hold all them all as my current box is overflowing). I really don’t need another shade to add to my stockpile.
